One Day
So it all started one day after I was talking to a friend at work, lets call him Mr. PopularMorningDrink. Mr. PopularMorningDrink asks me if I have ever fasted, I said no. He then goes on to tell me that he is doing it, 21 days worth for quasi-religious reasons and refers to is as a cleansing. During the 21 day stretch there is a three day period where he can only drink water and an orange pulpy mixture he must concoct himself.
He gets me thinking, have I ever gone a day without consuming anything but water? Could I even do it? It sounds stupid…but I have never done it. Never jumped off a bridge either I guess. But this seemed like a reasonable endeavor.
So while at lunch with the guys I asked them if they had ever gone without eating just to see if they could or for other reasons…none of them had. So I said I wanted to do it. They laughed and said yeah right…being a chubby guy they took it as a joke. But it wasn’t a joke. I told them I was going to do it…so like any good friends they messed with me talking about how they were going to go to Hooters, or Chick-Fil-A. I resisted, and said I will even go to lunch with them and not eat.
I started on Tuesday night, 9:30 was the last time I ate food. I usually don’t eat in the mornings until 11. So I was ok till I went down to lunch, but not to eat…just to prove that I could. The whole time everyone was eating I wanted to grab their food have my way with it.
Around 3:30 I had a little bit of the shakes and was woozy. By the time dinner time ma belly was really telling me to find some food. So, I went to bed.
When I woke up I was proud of my self, and then ate the best dam pop-tart in the history of the pop-tart. I challenge you to do it…for one day. It may sound easy, but it is really harder then you may think. It really makes you appreciate all that we have.
